This is a vintage map reproduction of a captivating pictorial map of Michigan, presented in a vibrant art-deco style that showcases the rich history, culture, industry, agriculture, and tourist attractions of the state. Originally commissioned by the Michigan Department of Public Instruction, the vintage map aimed to allure prospective travelers to Michigan for a summer escape.

The map teems with illustrations both within and surrounding the state. Positioned just above the state seal, an arched rainbow spans the area of Wisconsin, offering a view of the western hemisphere where the sun radiates over Michigan. Below, a charming depiction of a lighthouse nestled on a lakeshore bluff sets the scene for a young couple embarking on a sailing adventure. Historical elements take center stage, featuring old Fort Detroit in the top right corner adorned with French, British, and American flags, alongside a portrait of Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, the founder of Detroit in 1701.

Throughout the map, clusters of buildings denote the significant towns and cities, while subtle illustrations such as cherries, grapes, cars, and trees symbolize the diverse agriculture and industries for which each place is renowned. Notably, just within the Canadian border, a statement proudly declares "Michigan builds 90% of U.S. Cars," harkening back to the heyday of the automobile industry that earned Detroit the moniker "Motor City." On the reverse side of the map, informative text and images provide details about the state flag, flower, capitol, seal, and vacation opportunities, among other topics.
