This is a fine print reproduction of a travel poster promoting tourism to India via Trans World Airlines (TWA). The poster features an elephant beautifully painted and adorned in jewels. Elephants are a sacred symbol in Hindu and Buddhist religions, representing loyalty, power, wisdom, and fertility.
David Klein was born in El Paso, Texas in 1918 and moved to Los Angeles for art school. He served for the U.S. Army during WWII and produced illustrations for the U.S. Armed Forces. After the war he moved to New York City, where he began working in the Broadway Theater District. He is best known however for his contributions to the world of commercial advertising for the tourism industry, most notably, TWA. Klein resided in New York until his death on December 9, 2005, at the age of 87.
