This is a fine print reproduction of a striking antique map of Portugal that was hand engraved by Baptista van Doetecum.
With a westward orientation Portugal is displayed with exceptional detail as the country is color coded into four sections, showing important cities, villages, and an elaborate tributary system feeding the Atlantic.
Three strapwork title cartouches adorn the map along with an elaborate compass rose, sailing ship, the crest of Portugal, and monstrous sea creature.
